Favor Boxes

I wanted to make a few favor boxes for Valentine's day. It's an oldie but a goodie.

Here's what you'll need:
Heavy duty paper. I used thick card stock.
scissors
clear tape embellishments (ribbon, stickers, doilies etc.)
Step 1: using an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper fold up the corner of the short side to be level with the long side forming a perfect triangle.
2. trim the excess
3. Fold up the other corner to make an "x"
4. Unfold and flip the paper over. Fold the paper in half to form a rectangle. unfold and refold in the other direction, making a "+"
5.Flip the paper back over. Now take each corner and meet the corner to the center. Repeat for all 4 corners.
6. Taking the flat edge, fold again to meet the center. Crease it well and repeat for all 4 sides.
7.  Now unfold two opposite sides.
8.  On the sides that you did not unfold bring up the edges to form two sides of the box. Here's the tricky part. While holding the two sides use your fingers and thumbs to pull in the corners, and fold down the triangle flap. Tuck in the two triangles making the corner and fold the flap down over it. Repeat on the opposite side.
9. You now have your base!
I'm a visual person so here are pictures to make more sense.
To make the lid, you're going to repeat all the same steps, with one exception. Instead of bringing the corners to the exact center, leave about an eighth of an inch. You'll be able to see your creases. The same goes when you fold the paper to create the sides (step 6). Don't bring them all the way to the center.

You may need to tape the center on the inside to ensure all the flaps stay in place. This is the lid. Put the two pieces together and you have your box.

Now you can fill them with whatever your heart desires. A point of note: I used a tool to help make my creases really flat. Try using something like the flat end of  a pencil. Trust me if you have to make more than a few your fingertips are going to be sore, so use a tool.
